Art Journaling 101/201

Art Journaling 101 has been restructured based on feedback from students, and the *new* 201 will be coming very soon as an online class.

I have taken the first lesson of the original 101 and a few "basics" and put them on my blog / vimeo as free classes.  I will be adding to these randomly as I discover issues that my students have.

Art Journaling 202

So what's in this series?  Here's a more detailed outline:

Class 1 - Resist & texture
We covered some of the basics about texture in Art Journaling 101, so this is an extension class that combines using resist techniques on pages as well as adding subtle texture to your page, with a variety of mediums such as gesso, modelling paste and heavy body acrylics.

Class 2 - Book your paintbrush at the door
A brush is not the be-all and end-all of playing in your journal. Learn how to use other implements and household items to create a meaningful page.

Class 3 – Art Journal doodles
Pen work is an amazing addition to your artwork.  Learn how to add personalised touches to your pages by freeing your mind with repeating motifs created with ink and paint pens.

Class 4 – Art walk
Discover amazing art on the streets and in the galleries of Melbourne.  This art walk will be curated by Robert Lee Davis, a local Melbourne artist. He will teach you how to look at your surrounds with fresh eyes, and discover the hidden art delights of Melbourne.  On this walk you will be required to take photos for use in the following month.  This is not an in-studio class, students will meet on the steps of St Pauls Cathedral, corner of Flinders & Swanston Streets.

Class 5 – A fresh look at memory keeping with Robert Davis
In this class you will bring the photos you took on your art walk and be guided by Robert to create a collage page that incorporates your memories.  Robert’s techniques move scrapbooking into the realm of art.

Class 6 – Adding dimension to your journal
Don’t be afraid to add dimension into your journal. Invoke childhood memories by adding a popup into a page in your book.
